Launch

Evidentally I have started a blog. What is not obvious is why.

I am using Word Press as the publishing platform and created my own theme, named fufu, shamelessly imitating Orestes Chouchoulas’ blog.

If I had started this blog much earlier the following photos might have been entries.

[Sept 1988 Perfect dive...]

Having recently learnt to swim I demonstrated to my sister, sister’s friend, our dog Shum Shum and presumably my dad how to dive into the shallow end. Jukskei Park, Johannesburg, September 1988.

[Jan 2001 Girlfriend Hannah...]

Hannah and I met working behind the tills at Marks and Spencer. We started dating even though I was bound for South Africa for six months as the finale to my gap year. January 2001.

[May 2001 Mount Mulanje, Malawi...]

While backpacking in Malawi I met Ginge Fullen on my way to Mount Mulanje. We climbed Sapitwa, said our goodbyes and I ate tinned pears for lunch. May 2001.

[June 2001 Ascending South Africa’s Highest...]

Ginge and I met up again to climb Swaziland’s, Lesotho’s and here South Africa’s highest peak. This photo is taken at dawn half way up the 1000m South Africa / Lesotho escarpment. June 2001.

[Sept 2002 South Downs Way run...]

To celebrate my twentieth I ran the 171km of the South Downs Way from Winchester to Eastbourne in 28hr41min11sec. September 2002.

[Sept 2003 Madagascar zebu market...]

For my twenty first mum took me backpacking in Madagascar for twenty one nights. September 2003.

[July 2004 My first car...]

My first, although technically second, car. Boring but gave me, and continues to do so, freedom. July 2004.

Thanks Orestes for your approval (and, as I worried, for not annihilating my blog through some cunning hack or spamming to death - which would have been understandable) and for your vote of confidence. I should have contacted you first. Hmmm

Kash your cerebral proficiency was never in question. Thanks for the praise even if somewhat premature though I expect, given your intellect, that you can accurately forecast the future of blog.rieder.

Hey Rob,

Thanks for the words of praise but my brain isn’t that great! I think my blog will not surface in the near future (at least until the summer holidays) due to the excruciatingly large amount of coursework that we have been given in this past week. I’m sure you can relate to me when I say DIE Civil Engineering DIE!!!

I admit it (and you know how much I hate being wrong!)……I’m deeply impressed with your blog.
Yes, I know that, as your long-term girlfriend, I should expect nothing less, but you’ve always got to have someone uttering words of warning, haven’t you?!
Keep going with the hard work and I shall visit it with regularity and put my tuppence worth in, at various occasions!
