Thermae Bath Spa tour
Rob and Ruth at The A+E Society organised a tour of The Thermae Bath Spa with the operations manager this morning.

I was late so missed the roof top pool but, wow!, the rest of it was a visual treat.

The construction of it was “poorly managed” but the running of it seems slick and it is successful, both in turnover and architecturally.
My first question was about the condensation on the inside of the façade. ‘The services engineers are regular visitors - just not for a dip’ was effectively the answer. To be fair, the systems are being tweaked and could potentially work in what is a complex building - achieving the near impossible.
One of my other questions was about their smart tags (allowing one to leave keys and money behind). Hannah told me, after her visit, they don’t work. The tour leader chap had fun showing us just how easy they were to use, that they work (importantly), and finally how people mis-use them. Han: “Ner-ner n ner-ner…”

I want to go for a soak soon. I am told lying back in the hot water of the roof top pool in the cold winter air, with rising vapour slowly dancing in front of a night lit Bath backdrop is near orgasmic in terms of relaxing. The operator manager said the weekends are very busy although after 7pm on a Sunday it is almost empty (closes at 10pm). He also spoke of its relaxing powers - he gets to have a soak at 10.30 every evening and said he was actually 104yrs old.
So any takers for this Sunday 7.30 til 9.30 (£17.50)?

As a vet (and so totally architecturally challenged) I was pretty blown away by how smart and modern the building was while still tying in with everything else but most importantly I felt like a total tramp in a 5 star hotel…I couldn’t believe I could afford to be somewhere so nice! And just so you know Rob, Han’s ticket didn’t work well and although mine worked it doesn’t explain how to use them properly so i felt a bit of a spaz! lol PS sunny days are good too- you can see for miles
Will you do Bath Spa as one of your facades coursework buildings?
I must get down there one day. Unfortunately i can’t on this sunday but otherwise i’d go with you
£17.50. ow
Must make a visit sometime soon!
Actually the security bands DID work when Laura and I went in the summer, but they kept coming undone in the water (they resemble plastic popper watch straps) and I had to rescue it on numerous occasions. So less of the “ner-ner n ner-ner” please and more “D’oh” I think!
We had a fantastic time and with Laura’s indestructable camera, we’ve got some ace photos to show for it! Thanks Laur for a great day out!
Please come back to Bath again soon…..maybe we can get around the maze in less than 4 hours (and without clues from the six year old!) this time!x
Sorry for the false story of your malco-ness. Maybe I should make that a whole seperate engtect entry. From now on I will keep notes of all your blonde moments. So be wary my little one.
Adam, oh no
Nige, yeah!
Laur, look forward to seeing you again!
I’d love to, although I lack swimming costume.
Although it is quiet on the Sunday night, I don’t think you would get away without at least some speedos.
Where did the pencil go? I really liked that and was sad to log on and find that it had disappeared as fast as it had appeared. Is it just a little shy? x
Han - try hitting the refresh button. The old logo is in your cache and needs updating. The pencil is nice and will stay for a while but I wish I had invested the time to sharpen it to fit the pointy bit in. Any suggestions as to what the next one should be?
