Marmite CV secures interview
My CV - you either really like it or you really dislike it.
For my interview today with The Happold Trust, for sponsorship towards my final year at university, I gave them this CV in November ‘06:

Here is a close up showing how I milked the bamboo bucky ball we built:

I really like my CV (I intend to stick to this layout) but that is not because it is whacky and unconventional. Previous versions were just that and I admit they sucked. For example two versions back had this look:

It was one of the better ones but had a front cover with two photos of me with a third one (a mini me) looking at the first two.
So why do I like the current one? Along with it being unconventional, I like the function of the box thing (adaptable to its contents and lays out the content in sections) and the form (colours, simplicity, crispness), I like the picture content, and compared to my other CVs I like the efficient use of space. I like to think it says something about my character too, like fun.
“Errrr, yuck. Its pretentious, too long, landscape (!), silly…” I know.
My CV is not serious: I don’t expect anyone to read much of it. I hope it is intriguing so that people will invite me to an interview (tick), then I hope that the pictures will initiate conversations. “Oh that?! We just bought 1300m of bamboo, 750m of tape and, Roberts’ your mother’s brother, we had an 8m diameter class I frequency IV icosahedron geodesic sphere.”
Wish me luck, I will need it.

I wish you luck Bro!
And I love your different-ness…
I don’t know why you’ve still got the detail of a connection you designed in first year. But I like your CV and you should always get called for an interview. I’m sure you don’t need any luck.
Just one other thing…
“Long haired freaky people!!”
hope it goes well
Thanks guys. 2hrs to go! I am actually nervous for some reason.
Mark - yeah, that detail does need to be replaced but I tried to get a good balance of things in the images. I think I will have to play that tune really loud, and jump around to it, just before the interview.
Wow Rob, I love it, it’s fantastic…What a great idea! Loads of luck, let us know how you do lol
Not bad. I like the way all the different sections are clearly separated, different coloured titles, boxes around them, etc.
I think that makes up for the fact it is a few pages longer “than the expected standard”. ;-)
Verdict: 9/10
Oh yeah…
GOOD LUCK!!!
I’m sure you’ve had the interview already so wishing you good luck is probably pointless, but I hope that you wowed them with your RAR uniqueness, charm, enthusiasm, creativity and sheer brilliance. I really look forward to hearing all about it later this evening.
On the humour front, here’s a little insight (for everyone else) into one of Rob’s previous CV’s………
‘I possess a full and clean driver’s licence and have my own transport’ (fine, until you read the annotation beside it….) ‘with CD player’ - I’m sure that future employers really don’t care what music system your car boasts!
Love you baby, even if you’re a silly billy sometimes xx
Look! For clarification: the annotation “with CD player” was never going to be added to the CV. It was a remark that entertained me at the time or boring CV checking. I either was just about to splash out on the CD player or I just had, either way it was one my mind.
Interview over, now home. For reasons similiar to those why people should not start silly facebook groups about school or uni antics (the teachers / lecturers have access to facebook) I feel I cannot comment on the interview on this here blog. I expect to hear from them in a week.
I really love your CV. It’s definitiely very *you*, and it’s nature actually tells your recipient a lot about you
Good luck with your interview. Dave thinks his went well, but then again Dave thinks he’s a good cook. har
