Churchill House no more
I discussed the then imminent demolition of Churchill House in ‘Save Bath’s Churchill House?‘ Over the last few days it has been reduced to rubble.

It is sad..
The following three photos are from Bath in Time. Here is Southgate being demolished in October 1971:

Here is Lord Snowdon’s photo taken during his site visit in March 1972 which looks like the site as it is today:

And here is the new Southgate centre getting its finishing touches in September 1973:

Will history repeat itself?! At a project cost of about £350M you bloody hope not.
I noticed that they are retrieving some of the Bath stone from Churchill House, and chatting to a bloke who takes photos for the Save Churchill House campaign, I hear they carefully took the columns down with slings. I wonder what the stone will be used for.

I am sad to see Churchill House go. It just seems so unnecessary. I should reserve judgement until the Bus terminal takes its place. I will occasionally pin up photos of that.

what to say but to agree. I find it puzzling that a building so solidly built and relatively pleasing tothe eye can’t be adapted to today instead of pulverised.
